Why SEO Agencies Suck?
Most of our clients come to us after they have worked with several SEO agencies and either failed to see results or the result they got, after paying tons of money, didn’t yield the expected outcome.
So we sat down and tried to bring to print some of the most common reasons as to why these SEO agencies such and why you need to invest in SEO consulting instead, to save you lots of cash down the road.
- Lack of Transparency: Some agencies are not transparent about their strategies, processes, or the progress of the SEO campaigns. Clients often feel left in the dark, not knowing what they are paying for or how their money is being spent. That goes in line with #8, crappy reporting.
- Overpromising and Under-delivering: One of the main reasons, to be fully honest! Agencies might promise quick and significant results to attract clients but fail to deliver. SEO is a long-term strategy, and results can take time. Unrealistic expectations can and often lead to disappointment.
- Use of Black Hat Techniques: Some agencies still use unethical or black hat SEO techniques to achieve quick results. While these methods might work in the short term, they can lead to severe penalties from search engines, harming the client’s long-term online presence. Over the years we helped too many clients of ours with suspension recoveries and penalty removal, and we wish we didn’t have to do that. (Still, got manual action applied on your site – talk to us!)
- Poor Communication: Effective communication is crucial in any client-agency relationship. If an agency does not regularly update clients on progress, setbacks, or changes in strategy, it can lead to misunderstandings and frustration.
- Lack of Customization: Every business is unique, and a one-size-fits-all approach to SEO does not work. Some agencies fail to tailor their strategies to the specific needs and goals of their clients, leading to suboptimal results.
- Focus on Vanity Metrics: Agencies might focus on metrics like keyword rankings and traffic without considering the quality of the traffic or its impact on the client’s bottom line. Higher traffic numbers are meaningless if they do not translate into leads or sales.
- Inadequate Reporting: Clients need clear and comprehensive reports to understand the impact of SEO efforts. Some agencies provide reports that are either too technical, too vague, or lack actionable insights, making it difficult for clients to gauge success.
- Outdated Practices: The SEO landscape is constantly evolving. Agencies that do not stay up-to-date with the latest trends, algorithm changes, and best practices can fall behind, leading to ineffective strategies and poor performance.
- Hidden Costs: Some agencies have hidden fees or upsell additional services that were not initially discussed. This can lead to unexpected expenses and a feeling of being misled.
- Poor Client Retention: High turnover rates can indicate dissatisfaction among clients. If an agency struggles to retain clients, it might suggest underlying issues with their service quality or client relationships.
To avoid these pitfalls, it’s essential for businesses to thoroughly vet SEO agencies, ask the right questions, and look for reviews or case studies that demonstrate a track record of success.
We are not an agency and will be happy to assist with the vetting process and provide genuine, unbiased feedback regarding everything SEO.
